Yoga + Social Justice
200 Hour Immersion and Teacher Training
with Kimber Simpkins + Richelle Donigan
Plus Guest Speakers: Shahara Godfrey, Shirley Johnson, Jean-Marie Moore, + Kat Roubos
The highest teaching of yoga is that we are not truly separate from each other. A beautiful concept, but how do we put our non-separation into real life practice?
In our ten month training, we’ll explore how social justice is a profound means of experiencing our interconnectedness with each other and living into the truth of yoga. We’ll explore alignment principles, the Yoga Sutras, the chakras, and go deep into the philosophy and practice, all while asking the question, “How does yoga relate to what’s happening in the world, on my doorstep, in my relationships, and in my heart?” Come prepared to commit, be challenged, and grow in community and spirit. We’ll find compassionate ways to open ourselves into the difficulties we face in everyday life. As you expand your capacity for inner change, you’ll expand your capacity for outer change in ways you never imagined possible.
This training is ideal for those who want a yoga training that is relevant, authentic, and pushing the envelope of what it means to be a yoga student and teacher.
Module 1 Details:
100 Hour Yoga + Social Justice Immersion
In the 100 hour Immersion with Richelle Donigan and Kimber Simpkins, we’ll dive into how yoga can help us be more engaged, compassionate, understanding, self-caring, and willing to act on behalf of social justice. You’ll learn to engage with your own vision and self-understanding to reinforce a profound connection between yourself and spirit. Every aspect of yoga we explore will be through a social justice lens. While deepening your knowledge of alignment, anatomy, the Yoga Sutras, the Bhagavad Gita, the chakras, and the history of yoga, we’ll challenge ourselves to understand how these teachings relate to internalized oppression, privilege, community building, colonization, and what’s happening on our front steps.
Our amazing line up of guest speakers and teachers includes Shahara Godfrey (EBMC and Spirit Rock), Shirley Johnson (yoga teacher and psychotherapist), Jean-Marie Moore (Anasa Yoga), Kat Roubos (MSW), and more to be announced soon.
Module 2 Details:
100 Hour Yoga + Social Justice Teacher Training
In the 100 hour Teacher Training we’ll bring everything from the Immersion to bear as we examine how to teach yoga grounded in personal practice, community, and social relevancy. You’ll learn to share yoga with sensitivity to trauma, to culture and history, and to how students show up in their bodies and in the world. Many of our speakers from Module 1 will return to share their wisdom around how to show up as mindful, engaged, and respectful yoga teachers in our lives. This training follows the Anusara School of Hatha Yoga curriculum. Students who complete this training will receive Anusara certification hours.
